I am a Seattle-based, product design director with more than 20 years of experience leading designers, teams, and delivering end-to-end UX and product design. My primary focus is leading product design in cross-functional contexts, and delivering innovative, high-value product experiences using a full palette of creative and collaborative methods.

Head of UX (director of product design and research)

B2B enterprise SAAS /makes facilities management platform and services marketplace

  • Directed all product UX, managed and hired design leads and ICs, peer on product leadership team
  • Built new business-metric grounded UX roadmap, orchestrated with product and engineering
  • Developed design strategy across multiple SaaS web and mobile apps, managed services, and a two-sided B2B marketplace, inclusive of design system, design process, reviews, and metrics
  • Developed and established UX career levels, designer skill development, and all UX team rituals

Director of product design

Highspot・Seattle, WA・May 2021 – June 2023

Pre-IPO, B2B enterprise SAAS / makes sales enablement products for CMS, LMS, sales, and analytics

  • Led product designers and UX researchers, directly managed designers
  • Co-led all analytics and data visualization product features (40 people / 4 teams cross-function)
  • Co-led cross-team product design (20 product designers and design managers)
  • Reported to chief design officer, worked frequently with CEO, co-founders, other executives, and VPs
  • Responsibilities included budgeting, hiring, promotions, org structures, scaling design processes, and managing partnerships across design, PM, engineering, QA, research, services, and marketing
  • Created processes for design managers, design critiques, reviews, design system governance, tools, documentation, team communication, and career levels
  • Built design culture: led UX collaboration and communication working group, career guidance
  • Initial title was principal product designer (May – Sept 2021), also delivered end-to-end product design
  • Highlight: my team’s analytics UX features were uniquely responsible for Highspot being named the leader in The Forrester Wave, beating primary competitor Seismic on its most competitive “home turf”

Principal product designer

Pre-/ post-IPO, B2B enterprise SAAS / makes products for employee and customer experience, surveys

  • Reported to chief experience officer, then head of design, worked regularly with president / CEO and VPs
  • Team lead for product designers, UX and data researchers, hired and (dotted line) managed design and research managers, designers, UX writers, and researchers; managed first design interns
  • Co-led all enterprise administration platform features (25 people / 4 teams cross-function), including license management, permissions, user management, system governance, data privacy, admin analytics
  • Key role in hiring product designers (grew from 7 to 40), along with UX researchers, writers, PMs, and engineers
  • Created processes for design managers, designer and researcher onboarding, design critique and review
  • Organized and facilitated multi-product design system work on navigation, patterns, and components
  • Built design culture: UX ethics group, UX coffee shop, design book library, career guidance
  • Delivered end-to-end / full stack product design, and strategic information architecture models
  • Highlight: my team designed and shipped an average of 4 new features per quarter, integral to “land and expand” business strategy and to Qualtrics winning largest customer deals in its history

  • Reported to head of product, then to co-founder / CTO
  • First principal product designer hire, established design processes, grew junior designer to senior, managed design contractors, expanded design team, mentored tech writers into UX writing roles, created cross-team creative guild with all designers and writers
  • Delivered end-to-end / full stack product design and strategic information architecture models
  • Led design system, Sketch library, UI engineering partnership
  • Highlights: my team designed and shipped 4+ new features per quarter, which were integral to the company's pivot and “unicorn” status, plus the product UX became a major selling point and transformed ExtraHop’s marketing strategy

  • Reported to VP of user experience, worked closely with CMO and 6 product GMs
